Region Västmanland renewed its laboratory information system with LabVantage Medical Suite

Region Västmanland, the central Swedish province with four hospitals, has put a new laboratory information management system (LIMS) into operation. The LabVantage Medical Suite, delivered by Software Point, replaces three older separate data systems, and will be used as one common installation for both clinical chemistry, microbiology, and pathology.

In Region Västmanland there are hospitals in cities of Västerås, Sala, Köping and Fagersta. Two of the four are so called emergency medicine hospitals. The new laboratory information system will be used by 200 employees in laboratory medicine, performing 4 million analyzes annually.

With LabVantage Medical Suite, the laboratory can streamline its entire laboratory operations, automate routine tasks and processes, and reduce errors and overall costs. This contributes to improvement in the efficiency and quality of the laboratory work, and to safety and quality of patient care.

“The new laboratory information system is very modern, easy to understand and use. With one single LIMS, the work of our technicians will be easier and safer. It will also help us decrease the turnover time (TAT). The system was delivered and launched according to plan as well as the budget, and will reduce the maintenance workload”, comments Per Bjellerup, Head of Department, Senior Consultant at Region Västmanland Laboratory Medicine.

“We are very happy that Region Västmanland chose our system and it´s now up and running. The modern browser-based LabVantage Medical Suite has many practical and easy-to-use integrations like e-request, e-report, blood bank, scanning solution and web service patient demographics”, says Kurt Erlandsson, Product Manager at Software Point.

LabVantage Medical Suite is an “all-in-one” multidisciplinary laboratory system for both clinical chemistry, microbiology and pathology. In Region Västmanland, the clinical chemistry part has now taken into daily use, microbiology will be delivered this autumn, and pathology is planned to be installed in the beginning of 2018.
